Shopfitting by SWS

Plymouth-based shop fitting company, SWS. Two vibrant striped rugs in an inner lobby of a high-profile office block in Exeter show how simplicity and quality can create the most striking of effects. Through an imaginative use of colour and position, the designer has filled an austere white room with two welcoming pools of warmth.

What appears at first to be a symmetrical layout isn't quite what it seems. The asymmetry of the purple and cerise chairs echoes the irregularity of the wavy lines in the rugs. When business people gather round the table for a chat, only one gets to sit in the cerise seat. It offers visitors an instant ice-breaking topic of conversation. Elsewhere in the lobby there are semi-transparent curtain dividers, enclosed seating for more intimate conversations, and simple tables at normal working height for people to share papers and take notes

The rugs were specified by an interior designer and supplied and delivered with the timescales specified, excellent service all round.

Pure wool makes a statement

The purple-and-cerise rugs specified for SWS's client were a generous 3.5 metres in diameter and made from hand-tufted pure wool. To give the vibrant colours some protection against dirt they were also treated with Scotchguard rug protector.

Design-led projects like this are typical of the installations that SWS undertakes. The company offers a comprehensive service from creative design and CAD drawings to manufacture and installation. They cut and assemble all joinery in-house, have a full CNC facility, an upholstery department, and a custom-built spray booth. SWS's shop fitting clients come from a wide range of industries: retail, industry, hospitality, offices, and healthcare, as well as specialist designer interiors for TV studios and radio stations.
